Chile beat Portugal on penalties to qualify Confederation Cup final

Chile progressed to the Confederations Cup last with a 3-0 penalty shootout thrashing of Portugal in Kazan, Russia yesterday.

The ruling Copa America champions saw Claudio Bravo save three back to back penalties for La Roja beat the previous summer's Euro champs to book their first-ever final in the competition, where they will confront the victor of the present second semi-final amongst Germany and Mexico.

Cristiano Ronaldo at that point flashed a header wide in the fifth minute, before Eduardo Vargas was denied by Rui Patricio a minute later and Andre Silva missed a brilliant possibility after Ronaldo's cross abandoned him with just an on-surging Bravo to beat in the seventh.

What's more, Chile were unfortunate not to win one minute before the whistle - Vidal's first-time shot from fresh striking the post and once more into play, just for substitute Martín Rodriguez's wounded bounce back endeavor to ricochet off the crossbar before Portugal cleared the threat.

The game ultimately headed to penalties, where Bravo saved Portugal’s first three attempts from Ricardo Quaresma, Joao Moutinho and Nani while conversions from Vidal, Charles Aranguiz and Alexis fired into Sunday’s final in Saint Petersburg.
